Target Ad traffic with a Drift playbook

If you are looking to tie a Drift Playbook to an ad campaign you are running, you've come to the right place! 

Using our Display targeting, you can set up a custom playbook to trigger on your site for users clicking on your paid ads so you can keep your users engaged on and off your website! 

Here's how to set this up: 

  • Head to your Playbooks tab and edit an existing Playbook or create a new one: 

In your Drift Dashboard, you will notice a new section entitled Playbooks™. It’s also now in your left hand sidebar!

When you create a new Playbook™, you’re going to want to choose which playbook you’re going to make! Choose "See all" next to Messaging Playbooks to choose the one you want 


  • Head to the "Targeting" Section of the Playbook, and create or add to your Display targeting settings: 
  • If you are editing your condition, you can scroll over any exiting conditions and click on the pencil icon. From there, you will want to create a "URL" condition. Choose "URL Query Param", "includes", and add your UTM parameter to the condition: 

  • If you want to test it out, you can attach the UTM parameter to any URL on your site where Drift is installed!
