When to Use Each of Our APIs

Updated 4 months ago by Sara Pion

There are a lot of use-cases for our APIs, whether you are a free user or a paid user. Here are some of the most common uses of each of our APIs so that you know which best suits your needs!

Javascript SDK

HTTP API

Widget API

  • Used to map user IDs that link the ID your company has given to a user to Drift

  • Used to send data/events. In order for this to work properly you need to use the Javascript SDK. Otherwise your HTTP API will break (and no one wants that! 🙅🏽)

  • Used to send data requests to the HTTP API

  • You can use this API if you have data that you do not want to send to the browser.

  • Used to Identify users who come onto your website and Track their actions on the back end.

  • This API works the same way as the SDK in the backend in terms of mapping user activity.

  • Note: We currently do not have a way for all of these APIs to work with each other seamlessly on the backend
