Create or Add to a Dynamic Contact Segment When Importing Contacts Into Drift

When you import contacts into Drift to use for segmentation, you can now create dynamic segments by associating a property name to the import to add to the dynamic segment!

This will allow you to add to existing dynamic segments rather than having to edit an existing segment and saving them as new! When you add a new CSV to a list of contacts, all you will have to do is map the CSV attribute to the users.

Here's How To Set It Up: 

Import Contacts

  • Click on the contacts tab of your left sidebar on your Drift account. This will bring you to the page of all your contacts. On the top of right of this page, there is a button with a downward facing arrow.
  • Click this button and select Upload Contact from the drop down menu.
  • Once you click "Upload Contact", you will brought to a page with a light gray field in the middle. Either drag and drop your CSV file into this field OR click on it and manually select the file you wish to upload.

Please note that the CSV file uploaded must have a column for email or userID.

Map Columns to Attributes

The data read from the file will be listed in a table below the title Map Columns to Attributes. This will list the column title, a preview of the data in that column, and the associated Drift attribute.

Check that the columns in your file are aligned with the proper Drift attributes. They may be auto matched, just double check for accuracy! If a column does not correspond to a Drift attribute, it will default to unchecked.

Any column or Drift Attribute can be manually changed. Columns can be checked or unchecked by clicking the box to the far left of the table. Attributes can be edited through the drop down menu under the title Drift Attributes. Either click the downward facing arrow to expand the menu or click the “X”, clearing the text field and allowing you to type the name of the attribute.

Any unmatched and unchecked columns will be ignored when it comes time to import.

Create Your Segment Based on Your Property

  • Once you've uploaded your CSV, make sure to check the toggle to "Automatically create a segment from this CSV", name your property that you will segment your contacts by, and finish your import!

See your full dynamic segment in your contacts view: 

Once you've imported your contacts and want to see your full segment, you can Add a Filter to your Contacts and Use the Property _csv_import contains [Your Property Here]!
